single vs double flowers

Give me a choice between a plant with single flowers and a version with double, most times I'll go for the simplicity of the single. That includes oleanders. Except for this one cultivar called Splendens. The flowers hit some soft spot from my ethnic childhood for carnations. And their generosity in weighing down the dome of a dense bush is spectacular – especially out near Sydney's beach suburbs over the weekend.
